Motion passed at GUCU emergency branch meeting 02/12/2024
This branch notes:
- Academics and professional services staff at Brunel are facing the threat of extensive job cuts announced by management, with senior management proposing redundancies that are likely to impact approximately 20% or 1:5 of both academic and professional services roles whilst management’s incomes have risen.
- There has been no meaningful consultation with the unions in this process and Brunel UCU is as the recognised union for academic and academic affiliated staff has recently organised an indicative ballot in which 90% of members present voted to move towards a ballot on a formal dispute.
This branch believes:
- That colleagues campaigns at Brunel are part of shared national struggles and deserve solidarity.
This branch resolves:
- To contribute to practical solidarity to Brunel UCU’s strike fund to enable the branch to top up national hardship UCU funds donating £500.
