This motion passed at a GUCU Brach meeting Wednesday, 21 June 2023
This branch notes:
- Workers belonging to UNITE the union at the homeless charity St Mungo’s embarked on a month-long strike beginning on Tuesday 30 May.
- The strike is in response to the charity’s latest pay offer of a pitiful 2.25%.
- 200 workers have joined the union since the ballot was cast.
- Since 2010 frontline staff wages are down 30%, CEO pay has increased by 77% and SMT pay has increased by 385%.
This branch believes:
- This pay offer reflects management indifference to the financial pressures facing their own staff.
- St Mungo’s workers are fighting against the continued erosion of their wages and for the future of homeless workers.
- Excessive salaries that CEOs, SMT award themselves is misuse of public money and the donations of ordinary citizens.
This branch resolves:
- To send a message of solidarity to the St Mungos’ striking workers.
- To send a donation to their strike fund of £200.
