Goldsmiths UCU wish to express a statement of solidarity with our students, our student-led organisations and our student union. We’re writing this statement to acknowledge how important our students have been to our campaigns, now as we engage in an historic national dispute as part of UCU Rising and even more so over past years, particularly during our fraught challenge to Goldsmiths Senior Management Team’s Tranche 1 redundancies and the restructure. We want to take a moment to uplift the Goldsmiths History Society – @goldhistsociety – as a group of history students directly impacted by the Tranche 1 restructure, who came back fighting. We are especially grateful for their continued support following an incident on Twitter when our official account incorrectly stated an event that they were putting on would be crossing a picket line, a mistake we sincerely regret and have apologised for. As our membership is comprised of academic staff, professional services staff and students, we recognise the importance of continuing to build a relationship of trust and solidarity across our various communities on the picket, in our organising spaces, and through our social media platforms.
